Breech presentation

Breech presentation (also called 'breech babies' or 'malposition') is when the baby is in the wrong position for natural labour - ie not head first. While this is common during early pregnancy, it can be a cause for concern if the baby is still breech approaching term (36 weeks and later.)

Chinese medicine has a very simple and non-invasive treatment that can often turn breech babies to a correct presentation, avoiding the need for caesarian section or manual version. The treatment involves a moxa stick which is a warming herb that is used to apply gentle heat to a point on the foot. No needles are involved in this procedure. According to Chinese theory the heat stimulates the Yang and naturally encourages the baby to move into the correct position, and at the same time relaxes the uterus, allowing movement more easily.

If your baby is breech, it is worth coming in at any time after 34 weeks to have this simple treatment performed. You will be shown the technique and given some moxa so that you can do it yourself at home (or get someone else to do it for you.) The treatment is 50-80% effective and pleasant to receive.
