Infertility & Conception Issues

It is quite possible to treat any couple that are hoping for a child, regardless of whether or not there are specific issues regarding fertility - the treatment can help to ensure that both partners are healthy, happy and relaxed - in the best possible state to conceive.

On top of this, Chinese Medicine is effective at treating problems of infertility for men and women, in cases where there are problems such as impotence, low sperm count, low libido, lack of ovulation, hormonal imbalance, ovarian cysts etc. It is also effective in supporting IVF. If medical investigations show no reason why conception cannot occur but the couple still experience problems, fertility acupuncture can strengthen the reproductive system and regulate the menstrual cycle to maximise the chances of success.

Dietary advice (nutrition) and Tui Na massage can also be combined with acupuncture for fertility problems to create a complete holistic treatment.

It is often best for both partners to receive treatment when there is difficulty conceiving, even if one has an identified problem and the other has been given the 'OK'. However, good results can still be obtained by treating only one partner in cases where a definite fertility problem has been identified.

Research into acupuncture for fertility in men has shown many benefits - In men suffering infertility of unknown cause, one study found that acupuncture lead to fewer structural sperm defects and an increase in the number of normal sperm ejaculated. Another found that acupuncture made a significant improvement to sperm morphology in men with sperm abnormalities.

For women, a review of the evidence carried out at Cornell university concluded that acupuncture can help reduce stress, increase blood flow to the reproductive organs and normalise ovulation and the menstrual cycle, and should be considered as a fertility-boosting treatment.
