Morning Sickness

The term 'morning sickness' applies to feelings of nausea and/or vomiting during pregnancy (also called NVP). Symptoms usually start before the 9th week of pregnancy and stop by the 4th month of pregnancy - although they can continue after this point.

Acupuncture and / or tui na massage are effective in reducing nausea and vomiting, and quite safe to give throughout pregnancy. According to the theories of Chinese medicine, morning sickness is due to rebellious Stomach Qi caused by the presence of the baby in the womb. The baby prevents the stomach Qi from descending as it normally would, so instead it rebels upwards, causing vomiting and feelings of nausea. For mild morning sickness, a few treatments are normally sufficient.

Even in severe cases, acupuncture treatment for morning sickness can be effective. Acupressure can also be very beneficial, and there are plenty of simple acupressure points that you can use at home ono a day-to-day basis.
