Postnatal TreatmentChinese medicine has a great deal to offer in postnatal treatment, from routine treatments to aid the womens recovery and treat any specific problems that may arise. 'Mother warming' is the traditional term used to describe a routine treatment performed around a week after birth. A gently smouldering stick of moxa herb is used to warm certain points on the woman's abdomen in order to energise the woman and aid her recovery. A follow up treatment a week or so later using acupuncture and further moxa if required is also found to be very beneficial. Other post-natal problems that can be treated by acupuncture include: Afterpains For all of these symptoms, tui na massage/acupressure is also an alternative for women who are needle-phobic. Specific Qi Gong exercises or nutritional advice may also be beneficial, depending on the exact conditions and personal preferences.
