Sports Injuries

The broad category 'sports injuries' covers all manner of aches, pains and sprains normally caused by overuse, incorrect training practice or often by an accident like a trip or fall. Really a sports injury is no different to any other musculoskeletal problem, and can affect any part of the body.

The best immediate treatment for most sports injuries is 'RICE' - Rest, Ice, Compression and Elevation of the injured area. Serious injuries obviously need urgent medical attention - if in doubt, get it checked out. After 48 hours, treatment by acupuncture and/or tui na massage is often possible.

Both acupuncture and tui na can work on the effected muscles to reduce pain and relax knots and spasm. So called 'trigger points' are identified and needled or massaged, which can have immediate effects. Generally though, a few treatments are required to get to the root of the problem. Specific stretching or strengthening exercises may also be recommended.
